About°

I'm Gavan, a stock picker and trader by trade, based in Brighton, Utah. Markets keep changing, and that's what keeps me at it: there's always something new to learn. I learned the craft from the people who wrote it down: Warren Buffett and Li Lu on businesses, William O'Neil and Stan Weinstein on market leaders, Kristjan Kullamägi on setups. I'm working toward a style of my own from what holds up. I also love to build, and AI is how I turn ideas into the tools I use. I write about all of it in Snocap.

Why I do this°

Freedom first

The default path was never an option for me. Freedom is the goal. Money is how you get there.

Two fears

Two fears run every decision I make with money: the fear of ruin and the fear of not winning. Most investors pick one and pretend the other doesn't exist. I'd rather give each of them its own room.

My best results came from understanding a business and holding the core of the position for years, trading around it as it moves. That's the long-term book, and it answers the fear of ruin. The fear of not winning is real too, and ignoring it lets it leak into the patient money. So it gets its own account, its own rules, and its own scoreboard. That's the swing book.

The machine

Then I built the machine. Not to trade more, but to remove every unforced error between an idea and the order ticket. Scanners, a chart database, a market monitor, and a morning desk report, all built with AI. A few years ago that would have taken a team. Now it takes one person and a few months.

What I don't do°

01

No signals

No alerts, no paid chat room, no "I'm buying this now." Everything here is written after the decision, for context.

02

No outside money

I don't manage money for anyone else. Every position is my own capital.

03

No advice

Nothing here is investment advice. I own what I write about and may buy or sell it at any time.

Questions°

Where should I start?

The strategy page, top to bottom. Then the chart book. Most of what I post assumes you've read both.

What charts do you use?

Daily charts with the 10-, 20- and 50-day simple moving averages. For intraday timing, a 5-minute chart with the 6- and 20-period exponential averages.

Whose method is the swing book?

The setups come from Kristjan Kullamägi's published work, and the chart study follows William O'Neil's approach of learning from past winners. The scanners, rules, and execution are my own.

Can I use your tools?

Some of them. Agent Standings, Lo-Float, Priced In, Hunch, and Almanac Office are public. The rest run my own book and aren't for sale.

How do I follow along?

The letter, and @GavanGanung on X.
